SMART HAS BEEN releasing beautiful video advertisements since its recent rebranding, and we can’t get enough of them. While the touching ‘break down barriers’ ad about a gay son and his father’s acceptance that made an online and offline buzz continuously to touch the world, it’s ‘Own It’ campaign is taking a spotlight as well.
Both these ads have gained more than 2.7 million views in a matter of weeks alone.
Strengthening its hold to the Filipino consumers with its ‘Welcome Change’ mantra, Smart has officially launched its ‘Own It’ campaign this weekend, a week after it unbox variety of opportunities its consumers could maximize. The first Upload Station opened on July 23 & 24 at The Atrium, SM Megamall.
The ‘Own It’ campaign serves as “a platform that encourages everyone, especially the youth, to share their passions to the world, giving them a voice larger than themselves,” Smart said in a press statement.
The campaign is in partnership with YouTube for Smart Launchpad, which allows budding content creators upload their own work and broadcast it to the world via Upload Stations or via online submission at smart.com.ph/launchpad.
What is it for you then? Aside from providing you a free platform to showcase your talents, the telecommunication giant said it will be tapping industry experts for workshops. Then three of the 10 selected workshop participants will fly to Los Angeles in the United States for a once-in-a-lifetime experience of collaborating with the biggest YouTube Stars.

Smart acknowledges the great talents of Filipinos but showcasing those talents are oftentimes hindered by a lot of factors that include insufficient access to a stable connection to upload videos, the lack of knowledge and expertise.
“Aside from basic know-how in video production, many aspiring online creators don’t know the variety of content they can upload on YouTube,” Smart said.
“Smart continues to inspire change in the way the Filipino youth productively use technology and the Internet by empowering them with the tools to discover their passions, channel their creativity, and broadcast their talents to the world.”
Katrina Luna-Abelarde, Head of Wireless Consumer Operations for Smart said, “We understand that it may not always be easy for the young Filipino to express themselves on a digital platform – there’s always the challenge of having the right equipment and of course, not having access to internet connection strong enough for video uploading.
“We want to address these barriers because we have seen many of the world’s digital generation get their start in content creation on the platform, showcasing their talent on video, and sharing their talent with the widest audience available on the web. We want to encourage the Filipino youth to explore this alternative medium not only for self-expression, but also as a way to secure a career for their future,” she added.
Samsung has joined the campaign as the official device partner as well.
The SMART Launchpad Upload Stations will be in SM malls and schools nationwide. Next stop is at SM Mall of Asia July 30 & 31. Then SM Baguio (August 7-8), SM Clark (August 13-14), SM Iloilo (August 27-28), SM North EDSA (September 3-4), and SM Davao (September 10-11).
