A YEAR AFTER they were formed as a group, GMA Network reality show-produced-boyband, ‘Top One Project’ (TOP) won their first award, enough to boost their confidence for their first concert set this Friday, October 28 at the Music Museum.
TOP was hailed as ‘Best Group of the Year’ at the 8th PMPC Star Awards for Music tonight, October 23, at the ceremony held at Novotel Araneta Center in Quezon City.
Composed of young artists Adrian Pascual, Joshua Jacobe, Louie Pedroso, Mico Cruz, and Miko Manguba, the group bested other veteran group-performers in the country, which include one of their mentors, ‘The Company.’
We met with the boys earlier today at Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza along Katipunan during the bloggers’ conference for their upcoming concert. Asked on how they feel about being nominated for an award competing against their mentors, they humbly said they are both happy and anxious about it. Being considered as one of the best in the country or “being nominated alone is already a pleasure,” they said. But they also admitted it would be a different joy to win.
The group was also nominated for ‘Best Dance Album of the Year’ but they said if they are to choose only one award to win, it would be the ‘Best Group of the Year’ they would choose, with which prayer was granted later in the night.
Needless to say, the award would not only boost their confidence as they stage their first concert this Friday, it also catapulted their singing career as a group as they aim to put a different image to what the ‘Boy Band’ is known for in the Philippines today. That’s without even mentioning that their career single, ‘Pag-gising‘ released a few months back is now the most requested song on the local music stations, beating Alden Richards ‘Rescue Me,’ and Julie Anne San Jose‘s ‘Naririnig Mo Ba’ that follow on the second and third rank, respectively.
We can’t deny that we lost the true ‘Boy Bands’ in the recent past as we are being given by so-called boy groups with only looks but no talent these days. It was a concern raised by the TOP earlier today hoping to be known as the ones with real talent, and yes, the caliber music to offer Filipino listeners. I will bear witness to how the group was formed and their journey, and it is really nice to note that they keep on improving as days pass by.
This Friday, we could only expect an even better ‘Top One Project‘ as they hit the concert stage for the first time. Personally, I could vouch for the real treat the group is about to give concert goers and their followers. You gotta be at the Music Museum to experience it yourself.
