PHUONG KHANH NGUYEN of Vietnam bested 89 other beauties from all over the world to be crowned Miss Earth 2018 at the recently-concluded competition held at the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines Saturday night, November 3. Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco of the Philippines crowned the new Miss Earth.
To represent her country to the pageant that aims to advance the welfare of the environment was Phuong Khanh Nguyen’s dream since she was 15, when she first watched the Miss Earth pageant held in Vietnam in 2010.
Tonight, she hasn’t only represented her country well. She’s going back home wearing the Miss Earth 2018 crown. Fluent in both Vietnamese and English, the 23-year old marketing student hailed from Bến Tre, a coastal province located in the Mekong Delta. It is the Mekong Delta that she showcased in her eco video where she spoke about a project launched to protect the Mekong river and the people who depend on it for their survival.
She was quoted by the media saying, “Our land has stood the tests of times thru history. We, the Vietnamese treasure freedom, shrugs off trials, patience in learning and developing thru the phases of growth. Being one of its citizens, young and eager to contribute my share in helping Vietnam to be progressive nation.”
Other winners include Miss Earth-Fire Melissa Flores of Mexico, Miss Earth-Water Valeria Ayos of Colombia, and Miss Earth-Air Melanie Mader of Austria.
