Cebu Pacific to mount charter flight for OFW repatriation in Kuwait

Cebu Pacific (CEB) is mounting a special charter flight from Kuwait to Manila, free of charge, in response to the government’s call for assistance in repatriating Filipino workers from Kuwait on Friday.

“Special arrangements are being made since Cebu Pacific no longer has regular commercial air service between Manila and Kuwait,” CEB said in a press statement.

“Cebu Pacific is working with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait on the final travel arrangements.”

The airline will deploy an Airbus A330 — the largest aircraft in its fleet, with a maximum capacity of 436 passengers — for the charter flight, and will provide free food, refreshments, and baggage allowance for all passengers.

President Rodrigo Duterte asked local airlines for help with repatriation efforts on Friday, following recent deaths of Filipinos in Kuwait. More than 800 undocumented OFWs there are scheduled to go home, the DFA said. Last year, 103 OFW deaths were recorded in Kuwait, up from 82 in 2016.
