NO MATTER WHAT your social status is, you can cook delicious, budget-friendly recipes for your family like everyone else.
That was the message from the hosts of San Miguel Pure Foods’ ‘Home Foodie,’ who met the media earlier today for the launch of the second season of the three-minute cooking show. ‘Home Foodie’ Season 2 starts airing Monday, June 13, after Unang Hirit on GMA Network.
You won’t be able to categorize any recipe as pang-masa or pang-medical class, because they all use very common ingredients.
Chefs Llena Tan-Arcenas, Rene Ruz, and RJ Garcia of the San Miguel Pure Foods Culinary Center promise 19 easy-to-do recipes this season that viewers will enjoy and, hopefully, try at home.
Host Drew Arellano thinks the same. The food they prepare may sometimes look intimidating, he said, but it’s easy to cook and inexpensive. This season’s recipes are “Kayang-kayang Sarap,” or deliciously doable, so even kitchen newbies can pull them off.
With that, you could be a certified foodie too. By definition, a foodie is anyone with an interest in food and new food experiences. Chef Llena said San Miguel Pure Foods believes that, aside from dining out, foodies should also come home and channel their passion for food by cooking in their own kitchen and creating their own food experience.
“Home Foodie is all about inspiring home cooks to reinvent traditional favorites and recreate dishes from food discoveries using San Miguel Pure Foods products.”
Who Should Cook at Home?

The sweet couple, Drew and Iya Villania-Arellano, share a sweet moment earlier today while Chef Llena does her thing. Chef Llena commented on the couple, “Anggugulo nila,” during their first taping day with Iya, and later told the press they are “real people” unlike other celebrities. – ElysPlanet.com photo.
Asked who should prepare food at home, the hosts said it doesn’t matter. Gone are the days when cooking was a ‘mother thing.’ In the Arellanos’ small kitchen, for example, Drew is “the confident chef,” says Iya Villania-Arellano, teasing her husband in between laughs. Iya is now part of the Home Foodie family.
Drew welcomes Iya to the show, which gives viewers ideas for good food to prepare in easy steps, without spending dollars.
Iya, for her part, is the dessert queen, as she loves pastries. She comes in believing she has a foodie’s blood, as her mom is a good cook herself. Surrounded by chefs, however, Iya says she has yet to gain confidence in the kitchen and wants to become a better cook.
The couple believes cooking should be done together and is never a chore exclusively for wives.
The Season 2 Pitch
Drew was the perfect host in Season 1 given his wide mass appeal and non-alienating persona, aside from being a true-blue foodie, says a press statement handed to ElysPlanet.Com. “Drew will continue to inspire and encourage both men and women to enjoy food by spending time in their kitchens.”
Iya, on the other hand, represents all wives and mothers who are not just food lovers but also keen on learning and discovering more for the satisfaction and welfare of their loved ones. Equally popular and looked up to by her followers and peers, she will encourage kitchen newbies to cook as she takes on the journey herself, from novice to intermediate cook.
Witness this couple’s cooking adventure as episodes tackle the domestic struggles commonly experienced in learning and preparing great food for loved ones. You can also expect tips and techniques in food preparation from the chefs of the San Miguel Pure Foods Culinary Center. Catch the new season of Home Foodie Mondays to Fridays, after Unang Hirit on GMA7.
