‘IMAGINE YOU AND ME’ was made for AlDub Nation. It turns out to offer a lot more than that.

The film was built around the famous love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, the pair who became a national phenomenon through ‘Kalye Serye,’ the improvised romance segment on the noontime show ‘Eat Bulaga!’ But the characters here move past the personas that made them famous, Alden and Yaya Dub, and the story is told in beautiful frames against the picturesque cities and countryside of Italy. Calling it worth a watch undersells it.

Built for the Fans, Not Only for Them

The movie won’t eclipse how big these two already are, at home and abroad. It does add to what Alden and Maine are worth right now, and it gives their massive following one more reason to stay, as if the enormous support they showed at the premiere weren’t proof enough.

The trailer probably didn’t win over the AlDub skeptics. The film might. It may not turn them into fans, but at the very least it should make them believe in the charisma and talent of its leads.

The Director’s Case

Director Michael Tuviera told bloggers at a conference on Sunday that the movie was made with love, “with all his heart,” and it shows. He deserves real credit.

‘Imagine You and Me’ isn’t a masterpiece. It is a strong film, and a solid foundation for the movie careers Alden and Maine are building.
