Nar Cabico wins ‘Superstar Duets’

Nar Cabico GMA Network's Superstar Duets

Theater actor and singer Nar Cabico won the first-ever ‘Superstar Duets’ on GMA Network.

Cabico beat fellow grand finalist Gerald Napoles after a three-performance finale on Saturday night, December 17. The two had advanced to the finals the week before, after Rita Daniela was eliminated.

The show, hosted by award-winning actress Jennylyn Mercado, blends comedy with a reality talent contest format. Each episode paired a contestant with an international-star impersonator, with performances judged by a resident panel: TV host and comedian Allan K, traffic diva and Philippine ballad princess Aicelle Santos, and Asia’s romantic balladeer Christian Bautista.

Cabico’s win wasn’t much of a surprise, though — he’d been one of the strongest contestants from the very start.

During the two grand finalists’ first two performances tonight, the judges gave them identical scores, leaving the outcome up in the air, even though it was clear Cabico had the edge over Napoles. Scores from their third performance, plus guest judge AiAi Delas Alas’s scoring, ultimately decided the winner. Delas Alas herself had nothing but praise for Cabico.

The 16-episode contest first aired on September 3, 2016, and drew a huge viewership in Luzon, enough to top the ratings against ABS-CBN’s ‘Pinoy Boyband Superstar,’ which wrapped up last week — though it still trailed nationwide.

What do you think of the competition, guys?
