Quantum Films returns a year after UnMarry’s seven-award haul with the same screenwriting pair, director Dan Villegas, and the Kim Chiu–Paulo Avelino pairing.

At the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival, Quantum Films’ UnMarry followed two couples, one going through an annulment and a custody fight, the other trying to hold its marriage together. The film won seven awards, including Second Best Picture, Best Director for Jeffrey Jeturian and Best Screenplay for Chris Martinez and Therese Cayaba. Among last year’s eight entries, only Manila’s Finest, with eight, won more.

Ten months later, Quantum is back with A Perfect Marriage, written by the same pair and directed by Dan Villegas, co-produced with WASD Films. It is one of four films named on October 12 to complete the 52nd MMFF lineup.

Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino, Again

The film puts Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino, the pairing fans call KimPau, back on the big screen in their second film together, after 2025’s My Love Will Make You Disappear. Quantum producer Joji Alonso has praised both leads publicly and has said Chiu’s performance will look very different from her usual work.

The cast also includes Zac Sibug, who won the Breakthrough Performance award at last year’s festival for playing Elio in UnMarry. “My role here is way more difficult than that of Elio in ‘UnMarry’,” Sibug told Abante in August. Jasmine Curtis-Smith is also in the film.

Villegas and Quantum

When the project was announced on August 19, Alonso framed it around her history with the director. On X, she wrote: “The 4 films I’ve produced which Dan directed, have shown his strength as an actor’s director. It has been a harvest of best actor and best actress awards. This 2026, we work anew and collaborate on Quantum’s latest production.”

Villegas directed Jennylyn Mercado to back-to-back MMFF Best Actress wins, for English Only, Please in 2014 and Walang Forever in 2015. Walang Forever, a Quantum production, also won Best Picture and Best Actor for Jericho Rosales that year.
