Miss Globe 2026: Sasha-Juli Lacuna and the Philippines’ Bid for a Third Crown

A year ago, Sasha-Juli Lacuna finished in the Top 24 at Miss Universe Philippines as Tarlac Province’s delegate. This year she went back to a national stage for the same province, won five special awards along the way, and left with the Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2026 crown. Now she is carrying the Philippines to The Miss Globe in Phuket, Thailand, where the pageant runs from October 24 to November 7. The Queen Who Went Back Lacuna is 22, a model, and a familiar face to pageant followers. She won Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2026 on July 18 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, where 35 candidates competed in the 62nd edition of Binibining Pilipinas, the country’s longest-running national pageant. Her predecessor, Annabelle Mae McDonnell, crowned her. She did not arrive at the final empty-handed. Lacuna took Best in Swimsuit, Best in Evening Gown, Binibining Philippine Airlines, Binibining Urban Smiles and Miss SnowCaps Radiance, which made her one of the most decorated candidates of the night. Saffron Maya Snook told the Miss Global stage she grew up with brothers and never knew what sisterhood was until this pageant. By the end of the night, the Thai delegate had both: the Miss Sisterhood award, voted by her fellow candidates, and the Miss Global 2026 crown, placed on her head on home soil by outgoing titleholder Nguyễn Đình Như Vân of Vietnam. She bested a field of more than 70 candidates on October 11 at MCC Hall, The Mall Lifestore Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, just north of Bangkok. The Philippines’ Jayvee Lyn Lorejo, who inherited her national title in June after a resignation, finished third runner-up and was named Miss Global Asia & Oceania. Andrés Briseño gave the shortest answer of the final round, and it was enough. On Saturday night at MCC Hall, the events venue inside The Mall Lifestore Bangkapi in Bangkok, the model from Sinaloa was crowned Mister International 2026. He succeeds the Philippines’ Kirk Bondad. Spain’s Ignacio “Nacho” Monclús finished first runner-up, and Indonesia’s I Gede Aiswarya Pandit “Ais” Kartika finished second. Few people had Mexico winning. In our own read after the preliminary competition, we called the crown a two-man race between Spain and Türkiye. Briseño got one line, in a short list of men who couldn’t be counted out yet. He did have one hard result to point to: second runner-up at King of Andaman, the swimsuit competition in Phuket a week before the final. On September 18, Miss Universe published two statements that cannot both be true. The first, posted in the name of JKN Universe LLC, the company that does business as the Miss Universe Organization, said delegates from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, and Singapore would not be eligible for the 75th Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico. Their national franchise agreements, it said, were void ab initio, a legal term meaning invalid from the moment they were signed. The second came from Miss Universe Eastern, or MU East, a division of the same organization, and it appeared on the official Miss Universe website the same day. MU East said it had not reviewed or approved the exclusion, and that valid contracts could not be cancelled through “a one-sided public statement.” Two months before the pageant’s 75th edition, six national delegates are waiting to find out which half of a divided company gets the final word. The Philippines has never defended a Mister International crown. On Saturday night in Bangkok, it gets its first real chance. Two nights now show who stands in the way: a swimsuit stage inside a Phuket shopping mall a week ago, and the preliminary competition on Thursday. On September 19, Mister International 2026 held its King of Andaman swimsuit competition at The Bay, the events arena of Jungceylon, the shopping center in the middle of Patong Beach.
