ELY BUENDIA, AEGIS, and Up Dharma Down on one bill is the kind of lineup that usually costs you. On July 14, Smart subscribers can see it for free.

Smart Music Live, a new concert series from Smart Communications, kicks off at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with Crwn, Up Dharma Down, Nathan Sykes, Autotelic, Aegis, and Ely Buendia. More concerts follow in the months ahead.

The telecom company says the series is meant “to celebrate and break even more barriers when it comes to going digital,” according to a press statement sent to ElysPlanet.

“Smart Music Live is just the tip of the iceberg because there’s an entire roster of international acts to witness and experience in the coming months if you’re a Smart subscriber. This July 14 music fusion signals a series of live concerts, up close and personal experiences because we know that music is one of the pillars of digital entertainment alongside videos, movies, TV serials and gaming—all of these and more are now part of the digital habit of our consumers,” said Kat Luna-Abelarde, first vice president and head of Wireless Consumer Operations at Smart.

Who’s Playing

The headliners barely need an introduction. Ely Buendia, former lead vocalist of the Eraserheads, is considered one of the most prolific songwriters of his generation. Aegis, fronted by sisters Juliet and Mercy, gave the country sentimental favorites like “Halik,” “Luha,” and “Basang Basa Sa Ulan,” and inspired the hit musical ‘Rak of Aegis.’

Up Dharma Down, the Filipino band featured by Time magazine in 2007, describes its sound as entirely its own, drawn from elements of several genres. With Armi Millare on lead vocals, it has fans of every age.

Nathan Sykes first found fame in the British boy band The Wanted, and is now a solo artist and songwriter with a top single, “Kiss Me Quick.” Crwn is a music producer, composer, and beatmaker who has collaborated with Filipino singer Jess Connelly. Autotelic is a homegrown Filipino group known for its dance-rock tunes.

Upcoming Smart Music Live events include Selena Gomez’s Manila concert on July 31; the In the Mix concert, featuring The 1975, Third Eye Blind, Panic! At the Disco, James Bay, Elle King, and Twin Pines, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on August 18; and Shawn Mendes’s Manila concert in October.
