Gabrielle Galapia won Best in Swimsuit, Best in Evening Gown and the press vote. On coronation night in Lapu-Lapu City, the crown went to Thailand, and the Philippines finished third runner-up.

Sasiwararin Atsawahirankarn of Thailand is Miss Asia Pacific International 2026. She was crowned Saturday night, October 10, at the Mactan Expo in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, by outgoing queen Isabela Fernandes of Brazil, finishing first in a field of 38. The Philippines’ Gabrielle Galapia finished third runner-up, after a preliminary week in which she won nearly every segment she entered.

The final five came down to Thailand, Costa Rica, South Africa, Mexico and the Philippines. Costa Rica’s Gia Angelique Franceschi was named first runner-up and South Africa’s Nompumelelo Malindi second runner-up. Galapia took third runner-up, and Mexico’s Itzel Idolina Silva Borbon completed the court as fourth runner-up.

The Woman Who Placed Behind Her in the Press Poll

Two weeks earlier, the order had run the other way. At the pageant’s press presentation at NUSTAR Resort in Cebu City on September 26, the Cebu media voted Galapia their Darling of the Press, with Honduras’s Denise Martinez second and Sasiwararin third. On Saturday, the delegate who trailed Galapia in that early poll left Mactan Expo with the crown.

Galapia had the strongest route to the final five of anyone in the field. At the preliminary competition on October 6 at JPark Island Resort, she won both Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown, along with the Miss Be Hotel and Resort special title. Those segment wins carried an automatic semifinal slot, so she was already through to Saturday’s first cut before the show began.

“I just wanted to have fun onstage,” she told reporters after the prelims.

At the National Costume Competition on September 27, staged outdoors at the Mactan Shrine, the monument to the chieftain Lapu-Lapu’s 1521 victory over Spanish forces, she placed first runner-up. Her ensemble drew on the T’boli of Mindanao and was built around t’nalak, the abaca cloth T’boli weavers make by hand. Sri Lanka’s Sandeepa Sewmini Don Samarasinghe Disanayake won that segment in a peacock-plumed costume.

On coronation night, Galapia advanced from the Top 15 to the Top 11 and then into the final five, where the judges’ question round settled the order of the court.

The Country With the Most Crowns

Miss Asia Pacific International is the oldest and longest-running global pageant founded in Asia. Filipino organizers started it as Miss Asia Quest, and over the decades it opened to the Americas, the Pacific and eventually the rest of the world.

The Philippines remains its most successful country, with five crowns across the pageant’s different names. Maria del Carmen Ines Zaragoza won in Malaysia in 1982, and Gloria Dimayacyac won in Manila in 1983. Lorna Legaspi took the title in Hong Kong in 1989, Michelle Aldana won in Manila in 1993, and Sharifa Akeel won in 2018. Galapia was campaigning for the sixth.

Recent Filipino delegates have kept finishing close. Blessa Figueroa was third runner-up in 2024 in Manila, and Anita Rose Gomez was first runner-up last year in Cebu City. Galapia’s finish keeps the country in the court for a third straight edition, two places lower than Gomez’s.

This was Cebu’s second straight year as host and the first time every event was held in the province. Delegates landed on Mactan on September 21 and spent three weeks touring the island province, from Danao and Bantayan Island in the north down to its southern towns. The organization is led by Cebuana lawyer and former beauty queen Eva Patalinjug-Lim, who built this edition around the theme “Beauty Bridging Borders.” The new queen and her court are expected in Manila next week before touring other destinations around the country.

How Galapia Got to Mactan

Galapia, 26, nicknamed Jiji, comes from Pampanga. She finished as Second Princess at Miss World Philippines in February, the national pageant that also sent Asia Rose Simpson to Miss World, and she left that night without an international assignment. In June, Arnold Vegafria’s ALV Pageant Circle gave her the Miss Asia Pacific International Philippines title at its Coronation Gala, and Vegafria later told reporters she had been his personal pick for the post.

She competed with an advocacy called Voices of Hope, which supports survivors of abuse, and has spoken publicly about being one herself. Before the pageant, she said she wanted girls to see that a survivor can “still wear the crown at the same time.”

She leaves Cebu with more preliminary awards than any other delegate and a place in the court. The Philippines’ count holds at five, so next year’s delegate will be the one campaigning for the sixth.
