Catriona Gray wins Miss World 2016 Multi-Media award; chosen as ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ finalist

PHILIPPINES’ CATRIONA GRAY’S chances of winning Miss World 2016 just got a lot clearer, with her win, a few minutes ago, of the pageant’s Multi-Media award — which guarantees her spot in the Top 20.

Beyond online popularity, the multi-media winner is chosen for the “style, presentation, interactivity and inventiveness of posts the contestants create for the Official Miss World Facebook and Twitter accounts.”

Catriona is also one of the finalists for ‘Beauty with a Purpose‘ (BWAP), the soul of this 65-year-old pageant. Other BWAP finalists include Miss India Priyadarshini Chatterjee, Indonesia’s Natasha Mannuela, Nepal’s Asmi Shrestha, and Kenya’s Evelyn Thungu. The official winner, announced during the coronation night, stands a good chance of taking the crown itself — so don’t be surprised if one of these five beauties wins it all tomorrow, December 18 (US time).

Beyond that, Catriona also placed second to Mongolia’s Bayartsetseg Altangerel in the Best in Talent competition, and ranked 6th in Top Model, which was won by China’s Jing Kong.

Meanwhile, Cook Islands’ Natalia Short was the first to advance to the semi-finals, winning the Sport category days ago.

Category winners automatically advance to the Top 20 (semi-finals), giving us five confirmed names so far: Philippines, Mongolia, China, and Cook Islands.

Results of the fast track competitions were just posted on the Miss World Facebook page.

Each contestant earns a score based on her performance in each category to determine the Top 20, which is then trimmed down to 10, plus the winner of the People’s Choice Award. The Top 5 finalists are judged on their answer to why they should win Miss World.
