The third Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival named its winners on September 30 at Gateway Cinema 5 in Cubao. Screenings continue through October 4.

Antoinette Jadaone’s Sunshine earns eight nominations at the 49th Gawad Urian, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Maris Racal, Best Supporting Actress for Jennica Garcia, and Best Screenplay. Racal plays a teenage gymnast whose Olympic ambitions are thrown into crisis when she discovers she is pregnant just days before the national team tryouts. Her search for abortion care takes the film away from the familiar triumph narrative of sports dramas and into questions of bodily autonomy, fear, ambition, and the risks faced by women seeking reproductive care in the Philippines.
