Joseph the Dreamer Returns to RCBC Plaza in November, With Nonie Buencamino as Jacob

Nonie Buencamino as Jacob in Trumpets' Joseph the Dreamer, November 2026 run

When Joseph the Dreamer ran in July 2025, Jacob was played by OPM icon Gary Valenciano, who had played Joseph himself in 1999 and 2000. For the musical’s November return, Trumpets, the Philippines’ first professional Christian theater company, has cast Nonie Buencamino, a veteran of stage and screen, as the father.

The production runs November 6 to 22 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati, the same venue it played about 16 months ago. The building is also home to Inday: The Musical, which plays three nights from October 16.

Two Josephs Again

Neo Rivera and Jordan Andrews share the title role. Rivera has played Joseph in an earlier revival. Andrews, a UK-born actor who started his career in London’s West End, played Judah in 2025 and took over as Joseph for select performances, alternating with Sam Concepcion. Liam Nery and Enzo Isaac play young Joseph, and Julia Serad plays Rachel.

Joseph’s brothers are played by Boo Gabunada (Reuben), Matthew Barbers (Simeon), Carlos Canlas (Levi), Rapah Manalo (Judah), Renz Bernardo (Gad), Antonio Valdez (Dan), Daniel Solis (Naphtali), Sam Panlilio (Issachar), Luis Marcelo (Zebulun), Anton Posadas (Asher) and Gabo Tiongson (Benjamin).

In Egypt, Lorenz Martinez plays Pharaoh and Aldo Vencilao plays Potiphar. Jannah Baniasia and Dippy Arceo share the role of Mrs. Potiphar, and Iya Villanueva and Naya Ambi alternate as Asenath, Joseph’s wife. Jim Ferrer plays both the Warden and the Magician. The ensemble includes Kathleen Francisco, Justine Narciso, Coleen Paz and Gabby Concepcion.

Former Josephs, New Roles

Freddie Santos wrote Joseph the Dreamer, basing it on Cam Floria’s cantata Dreamer. It follows the Bible story of Jacob’s favorite son, who is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, rises to power in Egypt and later forgives them. Audie Gemora, now Trumpets’ artistic director, played the original Joseph more than three decades ago. Gary Valenciano, Franco Laurel, Alvin dela Peña, Rivera and Concepcion have played the role since.

Former Josephs tend to come back. Valenciano returned in 2025 to play the father, and Rivera returns this year to the title role. Buencamino has not played Joseph in this production, so this time the father’s role goes to an actor from outside that line.

Paolo Valenciano directed the 2025 revival. Trumpets has not announced the creative team for the November run.
