Miss Mandirigma Philippines 2026: ML Venus Tucay Wins, and a Familiar Face Returns to the Podium

ML Venus Tucay, Miss Mandirigma Philippines 2026

ML Tucay of Umingan, Pangasinan is Miss Mandirigma Philippines 2026, crowned tonight in General Santos City, the same city where the pageant itself was born.

That last detail matters more than it sounds. Miss Mandirigma Philippines was founded by General Santos City native Amihan Zamora, who runs the competition as CEO of the Mandirigma Philippines Association, Inc., and it has grown into the largest beauty pageant for the transgender community in the country — not a regional franchise borrowing the city’s name, but a national title that has always called GenSan home. The name itself is doing work, too: mandirigma is Filipino for “warrior,” a framing the organization leans into deliberately, positioning the competition as a platform for visibility and advocacy rather than pageantry for its own sake.

Tucay succeeds Yeng Lavitoria of Paniqui, Tarlac, who held the 2025 crown, continuing a title lineage that’s run through Cebu (Angel Marie Madrigal, 2022) and Davao (RB Jean Buhian, 2023). The pageant did not hold a national coronation in 2024, which is why that year doesn’t appear in the lineup.

The Winning Answer

Tucay’s final-round question was the kind pageants ask when they want more than a rehearsed line: if you possessed all the knowledge in the world but lost the ability to understand people’s hearts, would you still consider yourself wise? Her answer, delivered in full to the judges and the crowd in General Santos City:

“NO. I will never consider myself wise if knowing all the knowledge in this world means not being able to understand people’s heart. Because as to me, true knowledge does not rely only on wisdom that you have, but true knowledge is having that empathy in your heart and being able to understand how other people feel in their everyday life. Ladies and gentlemen, in this world, we will always encounter ourselves being in the crossroad, whether we would like to possess all the knowledge or are we going to understand people rather than being the most knowledgeable person. Judges, people of GenSan, if you are going to have all the knowledge in this world but not being able to understand all the people’s heart, you are not wise, but you are a fool. Because the greatest knowledge lies in knowing that your wisdom and your knowledge has limits, and your knowledge must be used to understand people and never to be wiser than anyone else. Good evening.”

The Full Court

Beyond the main crown, the night produced two special titles worth explaining, since neither is self-evident from the name alone. Casey Bañez Paculan of Quezon City won Miss Mandirigma PRIDE — a title that comes with succession power: if Tucay is ever unable to fulfill her duties as titleholder, Paculan is next in line to assume the role, making PRIDE functionally a first-alternate position rather than a standard secondary award. Hanz Montecarlo of Butuan City took Miss Mandirigma TOURISM, the pageant’s ambassadorship-facing title.

The runner-up positions went to Karen Montecillo of Tondo, Manila (First Runner-Up) and Iarth Jhon Ranis of Cagayan de Oro City (Second Runner-Up).

A Familiar Face on the Podium

Ranis’s Second Runner-Up finish caps her third major placement in four editions of Miss Mandirigma Philippines. She was First Runner-Up representing Cagayan de Oro in 2023, then won Miss Mandirigma PRIDE in 2025 — a title that effectively ranked her second overall that year. Measured against that history, this year’s result reads as a step down from 2025 rather than a first arrival on the podium.

Three placements across four tries, spanning three separate editions, points to a level of consistency the pageant hasn’t seen much of yet — the kind of recurring presence that turns a contestant into a familiar name on the circuit rather than a one-time face.

What Comes Next

Tucay now carries the crown into whatever the 2026–2027 cycle holds for Miss Mandirigma Philippines — international representation, advocacy work, or both, depending on what the organization confirms in the coming weeks. For now, the headline is simpler: a national trans pageant crowned its newest queen in the same city where the whole thing started, with a runner-up podium that included at least one familiar face making her third appearance on it.
