Three weeks ago, this space asked you to name the current Mr. Philippines. Trick question then — two organizations, one night, eleven crowns between them. Turns out that wasn’t even the trickiest thing happening that week.

On the same August 2 that Mister World Philippines crowned Aaron Beau Davis at a half-empty Newport Performing Arts Theater, a name buried seventh on that night’s list of eight titles was quietly making its own kind of history: Logan de Leon Culp, of the Filipino community of Canada, was sashed Mister Universe Philippines 2026 — the full “Mister,” spelled out. He’s headed to Los Angeles, USA, for the international final, running November 22 to 29.

Across town, at Viva Café, an entirely unrelated pageant was handing out a title that reads almost identically — right up until you hit the period.

The Other Coronation Nobody Was Watching

Jastine Dalampasig of Isabela won Mr. Universe Philippines 2026 — abbreviated, with the period after “Mr.” doing all the distinguishing work — with Caloocan City taking first runner-up and Parañaque second. A companion title, Mr. Universe Teen Philippines, went to Richard Tuazon of Tiaong, Quezon, with Calumpit, Bulacan as first runner-up. Per the pageant’s local franchisee, Dalampasig’s assignment sends him to Lucknow, India, for his international final.

Two men. Two coronations, both held August 2. Two organizations, neither of which appears to have publicly acknowledged the other’s existence. And two titles that any casual reader — or honestly, any search engine — would reasonably assume are the same thing, separated by nothing more than whether “Mister” got spelled out or abbreviated.

Why This Keeps Happening

It sounds like a scam until you check who actually owns the name “Mister Universe” internationally. Nobody does — not in the way Miss Universe or Miss World function as single, centralized franchises with one global office and one annual final. “Mister Universe” (or “Mr. Universe,” depending on who’s franchising it) is a name that at least three separate, unrelated international organizations currently use for their own competitions: one Mumbai-headquartered body currently building toward a Lucknow final, a second India-based operation under different ownership, and a U.S. group that markets its own edition in Los Angeles. None of them answers to the others. Any local promoter who licenses a piece of that landscape can legitimately crown a “Mister Universe Philippines” or “Mr. Universe Philippines” — because there isn’t one Mister Universe to be the Philippines representative to. There are several, running in parallel, each with its own local franchisee, its own house style on the period, and apparently zero coordination on naming.

This is the same structural glitch that split Mister International into rival Philippine- and Thailand-based organizations after founder Alan Sim’s death in 2022 — a fight over a name with no single legal owner, resolved by both sides simply continuing to hold their own competitions and crown their own winners. Kirk Bondad’s 2025 Mister International title, won in Thailand, exists because of that exact split. “Mister Universe” never even had one owner to begin with, so the fracture didn’t need a founder’s death to happen — it was baked in from the start.

Where the Postponed Pageant Fits (Spoiler: It Doesn’t)

If you’re tracking this against the earlier story, here’s the update on the piece that started it: Mr Philippines — no period after “Mr,” by the organization’s own house style, and worth getting right given how much a stray period is doing elsewhere in this story — is the outfit that pulled its Palacio de Maynila coronation the night before it was supposed to happen. It’s now confirmed its relaunch for August 31 at The Crossroad Center in Quezon City. The lineup hasn’t changed — it’s still awarding exactly the three titles it announced originally: Mr Philippines Grand International, Mr Philippines Model International, and Mr Philippines World Quest. No Universe title of either spelling is on that stage. Whatever confusion this organization’s rescheduling caused, it isn’t the source of the Mister/Mr. Universe double-booking — that particular tangle belongs entirely to ALV Pageant Circle and the Viva Café pageant, two organizations that never had anything to do with each other in the first place.

Two Real Crowns, Two Real Trips

None of this makes either man’s win less legitimate. Culp earned his sash on ALV’s Newport stage, one of eight titles carved out of a real national competition. Dalampasig won his outright, as the top prize of his own pageant’s night. Both are going somewhere real this year — Culp to Los Angeles in November, Dalampasig to Lucknow on his own timeline. They’re simply going to different competitions, on different continents, under different owners of a name that was never anyone’s alone to give.

If a pageant fan asks you which one is “the real” one, the honest answer is that the question assumes a hierarchy that doesn’t exist — and that the two titles were never actually identical to begin with. Check the period. Mr. Universe Philippines is Dalampasig, bound for India. Mister Universe Philippines, spelled out in full, is Culp, bound for L.A. Small distinction, real difference — and not one either organization has done much to advertise.
