The last time So Ji Sub stood on the New Frontier Theater stage, in March 2019, he was closing “Hello,” a seven-city Asia fan-meeting tour. He was a K-drama veteran that a Cubao crowd of mostly longtime fans already loved. When he walks out on Thursday, November 5, for “Soulmate The Timeless,” he will be the lead of 2026’s biggest Korean drama, and the audience will include people who only found him this year.
It is his third time in the Philippines. At that 2019 fan meeting he told the crowd that his first trip here was in his 20s, to shoot a music video. The 2019 show was his first fan meeting in the country. He played games and answered fan questions for the first half. In the second half he came back as the rapper he has been on the side for years, performing his own tracks with a backing hip-hop trio. Before he left, he said he wanted to try adobo and, if he got the chance next time, visit Cebu. A lot has changed in the seven years since. He married broadcast journalist Jo Eun Jung in 2020. His career has also had one of its best stretches.
The Show That Changed the Math
Agent Kim Reactivated is the reason this tour exists in its current form. The SBS action series, adapted from the webtoon Manager Kim, casts So as Kim Do-hyeon. He is a mild-mannered father and former special agent who goes back to his old trade when his daughter is kidnapped. It premiered June 26 at 9.5 percent nationwide and climbed to a 23 percent peak, which made it the second-highest-rated Friday-Saturday drama in SBS history. On Netflix it held the No. 1 spot among non-English series worldwide for three straight weeks.
For Filipino viewers he was already a household name. Memories of Bali, the local title of his 2004 melodrama, aired on Philippine TV. Later came Master’s Sun, Oh My Venus and My Secret Terrius. Agent Kim brought him a new, younger set of viewers who know him as an action star first. His agency announced the five-city tour in September, about a month after the finale.
What It Costs Now
The ticket prices show the change. In 2019, seats for his Manila fan meeting ranged from ₱2,500 to ₱7,500. This year, presented by Live Nation Philippines, the range is ₱4,500 to ₱17,250, ticketing charges included. That puts the cheapest seat at almost twice its 2019 price and the top package at more than double:
- VIP Package 1: ₱17,250
- VIP Package 2: ₱16,250
- Floor: ₱12,500
- Loge: ₱11,000
- Balcony 1: ₱7,500
- Balcony 2: ₱4,500
Every seat is assigned, and every tier includes a Hi-Bye Session, a short greeting moment with the actor. Every tier also gets a photocard with a printed signature and a postcard. Fan-sign slots are raffled across all categories, so the cheapest seat has the same shot at a signature as the most expensive one. The VIP packages add group photos: a photo for two with Package 1 and a photo for 15 with Package 2.
What You Miss If You Sit This One Out
It is a one-night show, with no second Manila date announced. His agency has promised stories from past projects, behind-the-scenes accounts, and stories he has never told before, along with stage performances. Coming right after Agent Kim, that means the first chance to hear him talk about the role in a room with Filipino fans. A clip on social media won’t give you the same thing. If 2019 is any guide, the performance half is where the night opens up. That was when the reserved actor fans knew from his melodramas switched to hip-hop and got the theater on its feet.
There’s no telling when he will tour the region again. Seven years passed between “Hello” and “Soulmate The Timeless.” Manila is the second of five stops. The tour opened in Macau on October 24 and continues to Taipei on November 7, Jakarta on November 13 and Bangkok on November 15. For Filipino fans, Thursday may be the only chance this cycle. It may also be the only chance to see whether he finally got his adobo.
