MMFF 2015: ‘Walang Forever’ Movie Review

‘WALANG FOREVER’ is a gem found in a haystack. It’s not every year that we find a film this good in the history of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), especially in recent years and especially in the romantic comedy genre, so it’s only fair to give the film the honor it deserves. Well-written and perfectly executed, ‘Walang Forever‘ is one of the best romantic comedy (romcom) films Philippine cinema has ever produced, if not the best. In a country where romcoms are often shallow and rely only on the lead stars’ names for likability and box office success, a film as nicely done as ‘Walang Forever‘ is definitely a great improvement, if not a fantastic change. It offers just the right amount of comedy to soften viewers’ hearts and share a few laughs in the first half, then bombards you with heartwarming, solid scenes of persistent love in the second half, and caps it off with beautiful scenes of true, mature love toward the end.

MMFF 2015: ‘Haunted Mansion’ Movie Review

DESPITE SOME WEAK POINTS, Haunted Mansion is a breath of fresh air for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), taking the audience through various shocking surprises over around two hours. It can be faulted for slowly establishing its foundation at the beginning, but the film easily engages the audience once it starts to scare, and gives worth to what we pay for.

Miss World 2015: Mireia Lalaguna Royo wins 1st crown for Spain

SPANISH BEAUTY Mireia Lalaguna Royo was crowned Miss World 2015 in Sanya, China on Saturday night, December 19, after a close battle against 113 other women from across the world. Royo’s win is the first for Spain since the London-based pageant began in 1951. “I think it’s important that they don’t want to see only our bodies, they are looking for moral things,” she said. “I think this is a good decision, because Miss World is not looking for our body, they are looking for a soul,” Lalaguna told AP in an interview after the pageant.

Miss Universe 2015: Brazil’s Marthina Brandt as Top Pick

IF YOU HAD TO pick one candidate to win Miss Universe 2015, aside from the Philippines’ Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, whom we dearly love, who would it be? That question was thrown at us as we prepare for pageant fans’ biggest day in the universe, the coronation of Miss Universe 2015 on Sunday night, December 20 in Las Vegas, USA (Monday morning, December 21 in Manila). In a pool of gorgeous ladies vying for the crown, it’s hard to choose just one, and our praying for our own country’s representative makes it even harder. But it was just a hypothetical question, so I’m answering it here.
