WHO WOULDN’T BE?

Tonight was my first time watching ‘Pinoy Boyband Superstar’ on ABS-CBN, and sadly, it turned out to be a first worth remembering for the wrong reason — right as I was falling for Allen Cecilio, he unluckily ended up among the three guys fighting to stay in the competition. The show ended with both Allen and me in tears. Baby boy Allen got eliminated.

It was heartbreaking. Genuinely heartbreaking.

Along with fans of his from around the world, we took our outrage to Twitter, calling out whoever needed calling out and refusing to just move on. That reaction felt natural, honestly. But for Allen to go this early? Still hard to believe.

Okay, fine — Allen wasn’t the strongest singer of the three. He missed some notes, and the song choice didn’t help. But how did he end up there in the first place? He didn’t deserve to land in the bottom three for a second time. I went back and rewatched his past performances just to be sure, and this guy earned a spot in the finals.

Watch the videos below and judge for yourself. Just so you know, I’ve watched every performance since the auditions to catch up properly.

The last video is Allen’s performance from tonight, the one that cost him his spot. Among the other bottom-three contestants, Russell Reyes was saved by public votes, and James Ryan Cesena was saved by the judges, with only Yeng Constantino voting to save Allen. Don’t get me wrong, we love all three guys, and I feel differently about James, but when it comes to the public vote, Allen came closest to Russell’s numbers. Shame on the judges who put Allen and those two other gorgeous guys in the bottom three in the first place.

Allen now joins the other Top 12 contenders eliminated earlier: Henz Villaraiz, Miko Juarez, and Markus Paterson.

The remaining contestants still battling it out are Ford Valencia, Joao Constancia, Mark Oblea, Niel Murillo, Tony Labrusca, Tristan Ramirez, Russell Reyes, and James Ryan Cesena.
