Chicago opened The Theatre at Solaire in 2014. It returns to the same stage from March 9 to 28, 2027, this time presented by GMG Productions.
In December 2014, the first musical ever staged at The Theatre at Solaire was Chicago. Its gala premiere doubled as the grand opening of the 1,760-seat theater in Parañaque’s Entertainment City, which was built to give touring Broadway and West End productions a proper home in Manila.
Chicago is booked to play that stage again from March 9 to 28, 2027. GMG Productions is presenting it with Broadway producers Barry and Fran Weissler and British producer David Ian of Crossroads Live, as a stop on the show’s thirtieth-anniversary world tour. GMG chief executive Carlos Candal said coming back to the same stage “feels like a real homecoming.”
A New Producer at the Same Theater
The 2014 season, which ran from December 3 to 21, was produced by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, David Atkins Enterprises and Concertus Manila. GMG Productions, the theater arm of a UK-based merchandise company led by Candal, has since become the presenter most closely tied to Solaire. It has staged Hamilton, Cameron Mackintosh’s Miss Saigon, Les Misérables and, in 2026, The Play That Goes Wrong there. It renewed its partnership with the resort in January 2026.
Chicago follows another GMG show into the same theater. Heathers the Musical plays The Theatre at Solaire from January 21 to February 7, 2027, about a month before Chicago opens.
The Show
The musical is set in 1920s Chicago. Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer, goes on trial for murder, and her lawyer, Billy Flynn, turns the case into a newspaper sensation. Her rival for the front page is Velma Kelly, a fellow inmate and nightclub star. John Kander wrote the music and Fred Ebb the lyrics, and Ebb and Bob Fosse wrote the book. The score includes “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango” and “Razzle Dazzle.”
The touring version is the 1996 Broadway revival, directed by Walter Bobbie with choreography by Ann Reinking in Fosse’s style. It won six Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. In November 2014, weeks before its Manila opening, it passed Cats to become the second-longest-running show in Broadway history and the longest-running American musical. Its producers now count more than 11,700 performances and more than 35 million audience members across 38 countries.
The touring cast for Manila has not been announced.
