Two separate Philippine pageant franchises sent male delegates to the same category at Top Model of Universe 2026 — pitting them against each other. Between the two of them and a historic Filipina win, the country came home with three titles.
The Philippines had two shots at the men’s title at Top Model of Universe 2026, and neither one had anything to do with the other. Kristzan Delos Santos and Julius Cesar “Czar” Olivar both walked into Istanbul representing the Philippines this past week, under two different national titles, sent by two different organizations, competing directly against each other for the same crown. By the time the grand final wrapped, the two of them had combined for a 1st Runner-Up finish and a continental title. A third Filipino, competing in the women’s category, won the whole thing outright. And hours away in Egypt, a fourth Filipina took a completely separate international crown the same night.
Three titles in Istanbul, one more in Somabay, one weekend, and the men’s side in Türkiye didn’t need to agree on who was actually representing the country to pull it off.
Two Franchises, One Country
Top Model of Universe runs men’s and women’s competitions side by side out of Istanbul, Türkiye, each year — a modeling-focused pageant separate from the beauty-queen circuit, judged more on runway presence and commercial look than interview rounds. Like a lot of international franchises, it doesn’t restrict itself to one national director per country, and two entirely separate Philippine organizations had each locked down a slot this cycle.
Kristzan held the Top Model of Universe Philippines title, won at Misters of Filipinas back in October 2025. Olivar held Top Model of Universe Philippine Islands, sent under Great Man of the Universe Philippines — a separate national franchise that also sent this year’s female delegate. Same country, same pageant, same men’s category, two pipelines that had nothing to do with each other until they landed in the same lineup.
The Runner-Up From Mindanao
Turkey’s own Murat Cakin took the overall Top Model of Universe 2026 crown in the men’s category. Olivar finished 1st Runner-Up — the best result either Filipino delegate walked away with, and a historic one in its own right. He’s the first Mindanao-based representative this pageant has ever sent, and now also the best Philippine finish the men’s category has ever produced.
Olivar made the trip look the part before a single round of judging started. At his hotel arrival in Istanbul, he wore a custom white structured Filipiniana — a modern, male-cut take on traditional Filipino formal wear, built with visible attention to structure and craftsmanship — designed by East of Eden by Fernando Garcia. For departure, it was a modernized barong with brocade detailing by Edwin Uy. Between the two looks and a full creative team behind him — modeling agency, photographer, groomer, and creative direction all credited on his campaign — Great Man of the Universe Philippines treated his Istanbul run like a real campaign, not a courtesy entry. On its own Facebook page, the organization called him proof of “the true spirit of a Filipino champion.”
The Title Kristzan Finally Won
Kristzan’s result reads differently, but it means just as much to him personally. He was crowned Top Model of Universe – Asia 2026, a continental title rather than the overall crown — but it’s still the first title Kristzan has actually won internationally, after two straight runner-up finishes at Mister Grand International 2022 and Man Hot Star International 2023. He’d turned that pattern into a running joke ahead of this trip, calling himself “Best in First Runner-Up.” Istanbul is where the joke stopped being accurate.
It’s a smaller prize than what Olivar walked away with, and Kristzan would likely be the first to admit it — he’d talked before leaving about wanting to go past the runner-up ceiling he’d already proven he could reach, not settle for a regional consolation. But a continental title is still a title, on a stage he described, before he left, as the one where wearing “Philippines” hits differently than any other flag he’s worn.
The Woman Who Went First
The bigger headline out of Istanbul, and the one that had already reached Philippine entertainment press before either men’s result did, belongs to Merianne Gabrielle Dekit. She didn’t just place — she won the whole thing, crowned Top Model of Universe 2026 outright in the women’s category, beating out 23 other delegates. She’s also the first Filipina to ever compete in this pageant’s female category, which means the Philippines’ debut and its first win arrived on the same trip that sent Olivar out under the same national franchise.
Her win is the kind of story that deserves its own piece rather than a paragraph inside someone else’s — the first-timer who walked in and won on the first try is a different shape of narrative than either men’s result, and it’ll get one.
The Same Night, a Different Country
Istanbul wasn’t even the only place the Philippines was winning that night. In Somabay, Egypt, Sophia Bianca Santos was crowned Miss Elite World 2026, giving the country back-to-back titles in that pageant after Juvyel Anne Saluta’s 2024 win. Two countries, two competitions, one night — that result belongs to a separate story of its own, but it’s worth naming here for the scale of what Filipino delegates pulled off across the board that weekend.
What the Philippines Actually Won
Add it up and the accounting is strange in a good way: one outright global crown, one overall 1st Runner-Up, one continental title, and — on the same night, an ocean away — a fourth international win entirely. Two of the Istanbul results came from Filipinos who were, technically, each other’s competition. All of it happened within the same 24 hours.
