Andrés Briseño gave the shortest answer of the final round, and it was enough. On Saturday night at MCC Hall, the events venue inside The Mall Lifestore Bangkapi in Bangkok, the model from Sinaloa was crowned Mister International 2026. He succeeds the Philippines’ Kirk Bondad. Spain’s Ignacio “Nacho” Monclús finished first runner-up, and Indonesia’s I Gede Aiswarya Pandit “Ais” Kartika finished second.

Few people had Mexico winning. In our own read after the preliminary competition, we called the crown a two-man race between Spain and Türkiye. Briseño got one line, in a short list of men who couldn’t be counted out yet. He did have one hard result to point to: second runner-up at King of Andaman, the swimsuit competition in Phuket a week before the final. On Saturday he edged out Türkiye’s Doğukan Navdar, the man who won that Phuket night, for the last place in the Top 3. Then he beat the two men ranked ahead of him.

For the Philippines, the night ended one round earlier than fans hoped. John Wayne Alba reached the Top 10 but not the Top 6. That ends the country’s first real chance at winning Mister International two years in a row.

The Shortest Answer in the Room

The final three all got the same question. While each man answered, the others waited with soundproof headphones on so they couldn’t hear. The question: if you had to choose between the interests of your country and what you believe is good for humanity, which would you choose, and why?

Kartika gave the strongest answer of the night. He opened by pointing out that he was born and raised in Indonesia, all 24 years of his life, and built the rest around “unity in diversity,” the English rendering of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Indonesia’s national motto. Under that principle, he said, “any law and any decision is based on humanity.” As Mister International, he argued, he could carry that principle to the international community and make it visible, because the titleholder should be someone who can lead with heart as well as look the part. Monclús answered through a translator. He spoke as a proud Spaniard and argued for helping other people the way Spain has in the past, so that countries can grow together. Briseño said he loves his country and that behind every country is a human. That was nearly all of it.

Next came the final walk for the three, set to “Unstoppable,” sung live by the Thai singer Tangmo The Voice. Kartika wore white formal wear and looked like the early favorite he had been all cycle. Monclús, at 1.98 meters the tallest man in the field, was in the best form of his run. The judges went with Mexico.

How the Favorites Actually Finished

The Top 6 were cut to three through their own question-and-answer round. The questions leaned hard on economics and politics, and most of the six had trouble with them.

Navdar went out at that stage as third runner-up. He had left Phuket with three titles: King of Andaman, Best Beach Body, and a sponsor’s resort ambassador sash. No one in the field went into the final with more judged wins, and those wins weren’t enough to get him into the Top 3. Vietnam’s Nguyễn Vũ Linh finished fourth runner-up. Sri Lanka’s Shane Wijesooriya finished fifth runner-up after reaching every round past the first cut on fan votes. Mister Photogenic put him in the Top 20, and the People’s Choice award put him in the Top 10 and then the Top 6.

The two runners-up each set their own marks. Monclús’s first runner-up finish is Spain’s best at the Thailand-based Mister International, beating a Top 6 finish in 2024. Spain’s back-to-back wins in 2023 and 2024 came at the separate, Philippine-based pageant of the same name. Kartika matched Indonesia’s result from 2024, when Glenn Victor Sutanto was also second runner-up, and he won Best National Costume on top of it.

Nigeria’s Gideon Ebosetale Abure, who competes onstage as Abure Ebosetale and is known online as Buray, had the fullest record among the men who stopped at the Top 10. In Phuket he won Best Performance and Best Arrival. His Best Social Impact award had already put him in the Top 20, and on Saturday he won Best in Swimwear as well. Thailand’s Waranyu “AA” Tharasiriwattanakul, representing the host country, and Korea’s Jung Gyu Park complete the Top 10.

The Back-to-Back That Wasn’t

Alba came in as the Philippines’ shot at defending a crown the country had never held two years running. He is 22, a Filipino-Italian car craftsman based in Milan, and he won his sash through Mister Pilipinas Worldwide in April, representing Calamba, Laguna. A Top 10 finish keeps the country on the board, though most of his supporters were hoping for more.

Before the final announcements, Bondad did something male pageants rarely see: he gave his farewell as a live speech during his final walk. He thanked the organization for the past year and called his reign “incredible and magical.” He said, “Calling myself Mister International was one of the greatest privileges I’ve had in my life.” The stage then gave him a tribute, “Hero,” sung by the Thai singer Alamina.

The Top 20, and Where Our Upset Pick Landed

The selection committee chose most of the Top 20. Four men got in through awards decided before the final night: Nigeria for Social Impact, Iraq for Digital Media Excellence, the USA for Mister Influencer, and Sri Lanka for Mister Photogenic.

Ten of the 20 went out at that stage. Our upset pick, the Netherlands’ Yannick Tavernier, was one of them. The other nine were Australia’s Dylan Mahoney, Canada’s Maverick Service, Iraq’s Mustafa Bayati, North Cyprus’s Adnan Aksoy, Panama’s Jesus Perez, Puerto Rico’s Jomar Rosa, South Africa’s Malwanduthando “Malwande” Khumalo, the USA’s Justin Khoa Phạm, and Venezuela’s Kenneth Daniel Bellorín San Juan.

Two men we highlighted in the preview didn’t make the Top 20 at all. Brazil’s Eduardo Castillo is a lawyer whose interview skills we expected to help him. India’s Aaryan Chawla had led several early fan leaderboards.

The Show Around the Crown

The production outperformed the Top 6 answers. The main host, Luke Ishikawa, kept the night moving without dead air. Backstage coverage came from Bank Anusith of Thailand, Rubi Shka of Nepal, and William Malell of Venezuela, the same trio from the preliminaries, and they needed more practice working together. Alamina opened the first intermission with “This Is Me,” and the delegates joined her onstage. She then sang “When You Believe” with Tangmo The Voice, did “When You’re Good to Mama” from Chicago solo, and ended the segment with Tangmo on “Sex Bomb.”
