A giant Christmas tree built from stacked purple vivo gift boxes stood lit in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel when vivo launched the V80 in the Philippines on October 30. The phone is built for the photos people take at moments like that, with a ZEISS-engineered portrait camera at its center. ZEISS is the German optics company vivo works with on its camera systems. The V80 starts at ₱42,999.
Actress Anne Curtis was at the launch, and vivo put the V80 to her in a round of questions about how she shoots.
I attended on vivo’s invitation. This is a first look and not a review. I’m a week into using the vivo V80 Lite, the V80’s sibling, and I’m posting updates on Instagram at @elyvalendez. A full review of that phone is coming. All photos in this piece were shot on the V80 Lite.

Light in the Hand, Camera-First in Intent
The V80 felt light, and noticeably so after a week with the Lite. Going by vivo’s briefing, these are its strengths:
- Portraits: ZEISS Center-Stage Portraits at 85mm and 100mm focal lengths, built for people, pets, and groups.
- Telephoto: a 50-megapixel ZEISS super telephoto camera with up to 100x zoom.
- Video: 4K at 60 frames per second on both the front and rear cameras.
- AI Creative Camera: AI Styles, AI Portraits, and AI Effects, including on photos already in your album.
- Creative Fisheye mode: Crystal Ball, Asteroid, and Rabbit Hole effects.
- Creative Sticker Collage and CCD Flash Portrait: a cut-out collage tool and a retro flash look.
- OriginOS 7: themed lock screens, system-wide stickers, and note and audio tools.
If a camera phone is on your Christmas list, the V80 belongs on the shortlist. On battery, it carries 7,200mAh, smaller than the Lite’s 10,000mAh, with 90W FlashCharge, vivo’s fast-charging system, to cut time on the plug. How it lasts over a full day is for the review.

The Portrait Lens Lengths and the Playful Tools
Focal length is the lens length that sets how tight a frame looks, and 85mm and 100mm are classic portrait lengths on traditional cameras. The V80’s telephoto sits alongside a 50-megapixel ZEISS main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS, which shifts the lens or sensor to cancel hand shake), an ultra-wide camera, and a group selfie camera.
The playful tools are where vivo gets creative. Fisheye uses the ultra-wide lens for curved, circular shots. Creative Sticker Collage lets you cut a moving person or pet out of a Live Photo, a short clip that moves when you press it, and drop them into another. vivo’s examples include a friend riding a paper plane. AI Creative Camera restyles lighting with one tap through styles such as Sunlight, Glow, Top Lighting, and Underwater.
CCD Flash Portrait imitates the look of early digital compact cameras. CCD is the sensor type those cameras used. vivo says the mode pairs fill flash with CCD-inspired processing to keep skin tones natural while adding vintage color and contrast, and that at night it helps the subject stand out from a darker background.

Anne Curtis, Asked to Choose a Lens, Picks 100mm
Curtis was asked about her lifestyle and why the V80 suits someone who travels as much as she does. She started with how she shoots. “Sometimes, the best photos are the ones that aren’t planned, not set up,” she said, the ones that come out naturally. She likes landscapes and, in the city, city life, and she also shoots sunsets. Food, too: “I love taking food photos! Everything!”
Photographer or model? Both, she said. She is photographed constantly, but as a mother she likes being behind the camera, and she’s the person who asks for one more shot from a higher angle, then to the left, then to the right.
Asked to pick between the V80’s 85mm and 100mm portrait modes, she chose 100mm. She likes the bokeh, the soft blur behind a subject, which cuts down background noise in a crowded place, and she said the look has “main character energy.”
Battery came up as a work issue. Her line of work makes carrying a power bank or hunting for a socket a nuisance, she said, and with the V80 she no longer has to plan around either. She also called herself a beach person. “We are so lucky that in this country, we have the most beautiful beaches in the world,” she said, and she added that the V80’s IP68 and IP69 ratings, which cover dust and water resistance, take some of the stress out of a phone dropping in the water.
Curtis is a paid vivo ambassador, so her answers are part of the pitch and not an independent test.

OriginOS 7 Gets Themes You Can Shake
The V80 runs OriginOS 7, the software layer vivo builds on top of Android. A Wiggle wallpaper wobbles when you shake the phone. Pet Pals puts animated pets on your lock screen. Glint shifts glitter and light beams as you tilt the screen, and StickIt adds stickers anywhere in the system. OriginOS 7 also brings Snap Note, an AI Recorder, and Shake & Share. If you own an older vivo, the OriginOS 7 rollout schedule shows when your model gets the update.
Price, Colors, and Specs
- 8GB RAM + 16GB extended RAM + 128GB storage: ₱42,999
- 8GB RAM + 16GB extended RAM + 256GB storage: ₱47,999
- Extended RAM: the extra 16GB is realized through software, meaning the phone borrows storage to act as added memory.
- Colors: Starwish Purple and Wander Green. Starwish Purple uses vivo’s Laser Holographic Lithography finish, which shifts under different light.
- Display: 1.5K OLED, 144Hz. OLED lights each pixel individually, and 144Hz means the screen refreshes 144 times a second.
- Durability: IP68 and IP69, the ratings for dust and water protection, with IP69 adding resistance to high-pressure hot water jets.
- Battery and charging: 7,200mAh BlueVolt, 90W FlashCharge.

Pre-Order Now, and Read the Deposit Terms
Pre-orders are open at vivo stores nationwide, on the vivo e-store, and in the vivo Store app, with offers running until November 13, 2026. Buyers who pre-order within the window get up to ₱2,000 off, a limited-edition vivo Buds Air3 worth ₱1,799, Gold vivo membership privileges, six months of broken-screen insurance and warranty, and six months of 100GB Google One cloud storage for new users. For installments, Home Credit offers the V80 from ₱85 a day over 18 months, plus a ₱500 voucher with the code V80HC500.
The ENHYPEN perk has its own, shorter window. From October 26 to November 8, 2026, the first 100 successful checkouts through vivo’s online store get a VVIP ticket to vivo V80 Lights Up Christmas, an in-person event with ENHYPEN’s Jungwon, Jake, and Sunghoon on November 12 at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. The group is the V80’s new set of vivo Friends.
The ticket comes with conditions. A ₱1,000 non-refundable down payment reserves the slot, and the balance is due by 11:59 PM on November 9. Miss it and both the ticket and the deposit are forfeited. Qualified buyers are contacted to verify identity, must bring a valid ID and the full order number to the event, and cannot transfer the ticket. If all 100 slots fill before November 8, the offer closes early.
What the Demo Units Can’t Show
Portrait modes flatter nearly everyone under ballroom lighting. The harder questions come later: whether the 85mm and 100mm lengths hold up at a crowded family dinner, and whether the AI styles still look natural on ordinary photos. Neither shows up in a launch-day demo. For now, the phone I’m testing is the V80 Lite.
