Miss Tourism International was supposed to crown its 2026 queen in China. Instead, the pageant is coming to the Philippines for the first time in its 30-year history — putting the Filipina delegate on home turf instead of a neutral stage.

Talent manager Arnold Vegafria, president of ALV Pageant Circle, announced the change at a press conference at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City, confirming that China’s planned staging of the pageant’s 30th edition would not push through. “We have signed a contract with Miss Tourism International,” Vegafria said, framing the hosting deal as the centerpiece of ALV’s first year holding the franchise.

A Franchise That Changed Hands This Year

ALV Pageant Circle only acquired the Philippine license for Miss Tourism International earlier this year, after the Malaysia-based organization ended its long-running partnership with Mutya ng Pilipinas (MNP) — the pageant that had supplied every Filipino delegate to Miss Tourism International since its 1994 founding, turning that pipeline into six international wins, the best record of any competing country. MNP’s grip on the franchise had already been tested once: in January 2025, MNP and the pageant’s owner announced that Davao City would host Miss Tourism International’s 28th edition that November, only for the deal to collapse in May 2025 when the venue wasn’t ready, sending the competition back to Malaysia instead. The transfer displaced MNP’s own reigning delegate, Andrea Endicio, whose Miss Tourism International Philippines 2026 title was left without a pageant to compete in; MNP redirected her to a newly launched franchise, Miss Polo Universe Philippines, instead.

ALV has had more than one franchise turnover this year. Its Miss Grand Philippines license — the local pipeline to Miss Grand International — left the organization entirely in 2026, passing to a new group, Reina Filipinas, founded by shoe designer Jojo Bragais and Miss Grand International 2025 titleholder Emma Tiglao. Landing the first-ever Philippine hosting of Miss Tourism International, in the same year it gained one franchise and lost another, gives ALV a genuine headline to point to.

Michelle Arceo, the Delegate

The Philippines’ representative for the historic hosting is Michelle Arceo — though her path to the role wasn’t a straight line. Representing Taguig City, Arceo was originally crowned Miss Tourism World Philippines 2025 at the Miss Grand Philippines 2025 coronation night in August 2025, for a UK-based tourism pageant entirely separate from Miss Tourism International. (It’s also a different franchise from the China-headquartered pageant of the same name that The Miss Philippines — the Empire Philippines-run organization that crowned Marian Arellano — holds for that market instead.)

By June 2026, ALV Pageant Circle had lost the UK-based Miss Tourism World license too, this time to a separate group called Hiyas ng Pilipinas — one more franchise reshuffle in a year already full of them. At the same coronation gala where the organization moved Jayvee Lyn Lorejo out of Miss Tourism International Philippines and into Miss Global Philippines — replacing Valerie Pawid West, who’d resigned that title over unrelated compliance issues — it moved Arceo into the vacancy Lorejo left behind, officially retitling her Miss Tourism International Philippines 2026. Lorejo, for her part, had won the title at Miss World Philippines 2026 in February and had been expected to compete in China before that staging fell through.

Arceo has one of the more layered résumés in the current national pageant circuit: she won the very first Gandang Filipina crown on GMA’s Wowowin back in 2017, took Miss BodyCon in 2019, and placed in the Top 12 of Miss World Philippines that same year. She went on to win the Reina Hispanoamericana Philippines title after failing to win the main crown at the Miss Grand Philippines 2023 competition, which sent her to the Bolivia-based pageant celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture — where she finished as second runner-up, the Philippines’ best result there since Winwyn Marquez’s win in 2017. It was only two years later that another Filipina, Dia Maté, won the Reina Hispanoamericana 2025 title outright. Along the way Arceo also placed first runner-up at Miss Environment International and Century Tuna Superbods, both in 2022, before returning to Miss Grand Philippines in 2025 — the edition where she picked up the Miss Tourism World Philippines title that would eventually become her Miss Tourism International crown.

That track record is what pageant media means by calling her the “queen of several minor pageants”: someone who has spent nearly a decade cycling through the Philippines’ dense minor-title ecosystem, picking up international placements along the way rather than landing one breakout national win.

What Hosting Actually Changes for Her

Being Miss Tourism International Philippines 2026 now carries a different kind of pressure than it would have under a China staging. Arceo won’t just represent the Philippines on a neutral international stage — she’ll be doing it in front of a home crowd, under a host-country spotlight, chasing the seventh Miss Tourism International crown for a country that’s already produced six. Miss Tourism International 2026 is scheduled for December 15 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay — the same venue where Vegafria announced the hosting deal in the first place.

For MNP, watching the franchise it built over three decades get restaged in the Philippines under someone else’s banner will likely sting no matter how the coronation goes. ALV gets a fast, visible win in a year that’s otherwise been a mixed bag of franchise gains and losses. Arceo, for her part, is chasing the highest-stakes placement yet in a career built on outlasting the field rather than winning it outright on the first try.
